Why it's best to book a Nomad Tour! By: | 2012-05-30
Some of these may come to you as a surprise as a lot of them are probably not the questions that you would ask your operator before going on tour and these things really aren't what you think about when choosing your tour. Most people make their decision on price, dates, and itinerary, but we're asking you to look deeper into the company that you're planning on travelling with. We've got the price, dates and itinerary covered - now find out what else we can offer you!
Having been in the industry for 15 years, Nomad remains a market leader and is responsible for a lot of industry firsts, ensuring that we do have the best tours on the market. We are your local African specialist! Nomad Adventure Tours was one of the first operators to introduce:
Fully operational freezers on the trucks for food storage
Glass windows for the trucks
Seatbelts in all of our vehicles
SABS (South African Bureau of Standards) homologated trucks of our own design and build
A fully accommodated Victoria Falls to Nairobi tour option
A non-profit organisation to uplift the people of Africa, protect the magnificent places we visit and to safeguard our unique and diverse wildlife heritage, all of this made possible through the Nomad African Trust.
We are the first African Adventure Company to offer a programme where guests can neutralise their carbon footprint by supporting the planting of endemic trees – this is called the “Green Seats” option and can be purchased on any tour.
Brand new trucks on tours and a move away from bench seating to individual bucket seats.
PA systems, power sources for charging batteries and individual lockers on the trucks
And lastly and most importantly, local qualified guides who are immensely passionate and proud about their home and heritage.
As Nomad is locally and privately founded, owned and operated; by travelling with us you are automatically supporting local industry and ensuring a strong local economy. This in turn supports local communities and investment directly into South Africa. Alex, our Founder and Director, is hands on every day and personally oversees and assists the teams where required. He has grown the company from one truck and two guides to one of the world’s most renowned African overland operators. Alex is immensely generous with supporting local communities and neighbourhoods with the Nomad African Trust and his personal touch can be felt on each of the tours that depart.
We offer our tours in either fully camping or fully accommodated options
All of our tours can be sold in sections or can be linked together to extend a tour
Tours operate in both a North and South direction
We have tours that depart with Spanish and German translators
We have a groups department which is capable of tailoring a tour of any nature in any language.
We have the widest product choice in our range and we operate more dates than any of the operators.
All guides are encouraged to further their qualifications and are incentivised accordingly. They are individually coached and mentored at the beginning and end of each tour to give praise where due and to continually improve standards where required.
Our detailed feedback system provides us with constant feedback about all the components of a good tour. We monitor and graph performance as well as tour results and incorporate this in our briefings and product development.
All of our trucks are SABS approved and locally registered which makes them the safest on the road as they are tested by the authorities every 6 months and have to adhere to the highest safety standards.
Our state of the art workshop in Somerset West lovingly maintains our fleet of vehicles. Our workshop builds, maintains and repairs the fleet.
All trucks have seatbelts, charging facilities for cameras, PA systems, iPod jacks, long range fuel tanks, and most have individual lockers.
We have some of the most skilled and experienced operations, maintenance and logistics teams on board and have on average been with us for 6 years.
Now that you're armed and dangerous with all of this information - take it to the other operators and see what they have to say!
Happy Travels, it's Play Time!
