The Parks and Wildlife Management Authority has started renovating the entrance to the Victoria Falls Rainforest ahead of the Fifa World Cup as it is now an eyesore, the public relations manager, Ms Carol Washaya-Moyo, has said.
In an interview, she said the entry point needed to be upgraded before the start of the soccer showcase, now about 115 days away.
“Work has already started on renovating the entry point to the rainforest. As we prepare for the 2010 World Cup we want our visitors to be welcomed by an appealing site and not an eyesore.
“The renovations will also see the setting up of a coffee shop where tourists can sit, have a cup of coffee or drinks as they cool down after a tour of the rainforest,” she said.
Ms Washaya-Moyo said the project to renovate the entry point was launched two years ago but had been put on hold.
She said the project would go a long way in making the entry point to one of the seven wonders of the world attractive.
Tour and adventure operators and visitors have been complaining about the state of the entry point saying it gave the country a bad image.
