The Hole in the Wall carries an interesting Xhosa legend. Xhosa mythology believes that one of the sea people, who look like humans, but has flexible wrists and ankles with flipper-like hands and feet – saw a beautiful girl living in a village with a lagoon that was cut off from the sea by a mighty cliff. Immediately struck by her beauty, the sea person decided to persuade her for her affections.
This did not sit well with the girl’s father. The sea people then recruited a massive fish which battered its way through the wall of rock. They spilled through this hole and swept the young Xhosa girl away.
