The Himba are an ethnic group that live predominantly in the North of Namibia in the Kunene region. They are known for the effort they have made to uphold their roots. They still largely lead a traditional way of life and interacting with them is an eye opening experience that will leave you with a much better understanding of how people have survived in such harsh conditions for many generations. Although they are traditionally a nomadic people they have recently built two villagers which have become popular with tourists who want to learn more about their culture.
Nomad tours believe that all travellers should experience as much of the local culture as possible when travelling anywhere in the world. The Himba are a welcoming people that are curious about visitors and eager to share their way of life with anyone interested. The Himba tribe tours form part of three of our Nomad tours packages and are always well liked. They provide visitors with a glimpse of their daily lives and a sound understanding of their culture and traditions. We make the effort to spend as much time as possible with the tribe during our Himba tribe tours. So during the course of the day you will have the opportunity to absorb as much of the culture as possible.
The Himba tribe are easily recognisable by their unique dress and hair style which make use of the abundant ochre in the area. The Himba tribe tours are mutually beneficial for both the visitor and the tribe’s people that receive important exposure. By educating the public about their way of life they are able to preserve their culture and impress upon the outside world the importance of treating the natural world with respect.
