Maputo, Mozambique, 4 Feb – A film about the Gorongosa National Park will be broadcast Monday on US television network National Geographic, the director of the Mozambican National Tourism Institute (Inatur) told Macauhub in Maputo.

Bernardo Dramos said that the documentary could lead to many people becoming interested in visiting Mozambique and, particularly, Gorongosa.

“I believe that when the film is broadcast on National Geographic the world’s reaction will be spectacular,” said the Inatur director, who also commented on the film’s recent presentation in Lisbon and Madrid, at the Lisbon Tourism Fair (BTL) and the Madrid Tourism Fair (Fitur).

"People were very enthusiastic on seeing the film, both in Lisbon and Madrid," Dramos said.

The film was first shown in the Mozambican capital, Maputo in December, 2009.

The recovery of Gorongosa National Park, which was severely affected by 16 years of civil war, is being carried out by the Carr Foundation, which is partnering the Mozambican government and investing at least US$1.5 million per year.

One of the government’s current targets is to increase tourism’s contribution to gross domestic product from 2,5 percent currently to 4 percent over the next five years.
